Amethyst: Bridge Between The Worlds

Amethyst helps the wearer bridge the spiritual and physical realms. Associated with creativity, spirituality, and magic, this purple stone combines the emotional sensitivity and spirituality of blue with the passionate intensity and physicality of red. For this reason, amethyst both elevates and grounds the wearer.

Amethyst refines perception and intuition, awakens spiritual understanding, and grants visions. It also allows one to channel and balance great power in order to make those visions manifest. Because of this amethyst is associated with creativity, individuality, maximizing one’s potential, far sight and insight, action in the service of vision, and passion.

The color purple has both mystical and royal associations, or associations with the fields of vision and of action. I like thinking of them as Merlin and King Arthur. More about purple here.

If bridging the spiritual and material worlds makes visions manifest, the reverse is true as well; amethyst and other purple-vibration materials facilitate the transmutation of the physical to the sublime. On the basic level this is a refined emotional perception of physical objects; on higher levels this results in a physical shift of gross to subtle, as lead into gold or flesh into light.

Much New Age philosophy proposes that spiritual evolution inevitably includes the refinement of the senses and eventually the refinement of the physical body (ascension, as in Ascended Masters), in exactly this way. Accordingly, our present time is sometimes named the Violet Age, and many of the spiritual, passionate, charismatic, and idealistic figures transforming our culture are said to have violet auras. Amethyst opens the higher chakras, grounds excessive energy, and smoothes out the stress of spiritual awakenings. It assists with changes, transformations, and transmutations, and is therefore a protection against intoxication, and poisons. It helps with intuitive work and grants prophetic dreams and visions.

Amethyst facilitates creativity and awakens passion on levels from the physical to the divine. Its world-bridging visionary capabilities make it useful in contacting spirits, fairies, angels, the shamanic underworld, and the ancestors. It also serves as a type of translator or communication stone, largely on a third eye intuitive level.

Finally, amethyst encourages self-expression and individuality, freeing one’s potential by eliminating unhealthy self-doubt.
