Snow, Again

My mother likes to shop at thrift stores, and I remember her putting secondhand clothes or fabrics in plastic bags and leaving them outside on freezing nights, or, in warm weather, leaving them overnight in the freezer to clean out unwanted energy before use. Smudging, a sprinkle of salt, and other ceremonies are popular, both for cleansing freshly obtained items, or for neutralizing regret or bad feelings about something being given or thrown away. My mother preferred using the cold.

For me, falling snow serves a threefold purpose, The cold purifies an amulet, setting, or stone, while the sweeping wind and falling flakes set up an easy cleansing motion in a crystal’s memory, and finally the light reflected from the fallen white snow has a “young” vibration of new beginnings, a virginal freshness that has healing properties (think of the legendary vampires and witches drinking, or bathing in, virgin’s blood).
