Smoky Quartz and Interdimensional Travel

Grey is rarely thought of as a power color, but it features in my amulets as gray freshwater pearls, shades of amethyst, inclusions in howlite, hematite, certain agates, and smoky quartz. Grey is famous as the only color without a definitive set of associations, unlike other so-called neutrals like brown (which is associated with rustic homeyness and unsophisticated dependability) and white (which is associated with purity and can even cause anxiety in excess).  All grey stones have a marvelous quality of indeterminacy, and of the grey stones I often prefer the pure semi-transparent power of the smoky quartz.

Gray is the color or lack of color of twilight, the in-between time of the fairies and ancestor spirits, which is a famous time for humans to step into the fairy or spirit realms. It can be the time of ghosts or magic. The other “grey hours” are those hours when the earth stirs before dawn, and the vitality life-energy of the daytime sweeps through the air like a grey angel and sets the birds riotously singing. This is the time of the angels and the shining gods, an auspicious time for meditation, when one can freely enter the realms of the divine.

The strong energy of quartz crystal, thus flavored by the smoky grayness, makes it ideal for interdimensional travel, in which the perception of one’s surroundings is recognized (quartz=consciousness) as a mere filtering of the pre-existing indeterminacy of un-manifest Being. This indeterminacy is then re-perceived as determined by the other gems present and the wearer’s initial intention. The end result appears to be “travel to another reality”.

In shape shifting, the alternate self of the wearer as reflected in that particular reality becomes the body the wearer is conscious of. The dissolution into indeterminacy is so trusted that the projection of the physical body undergoes the same process as the rest of the former reality and appears to be replaced. Both shape shifting and interdimensional travel operate on the same principle at different levels of sophistication, and central to both is the allowance of the smoky, indeterminate state.

Smoky quartz is famously grounding, combining the clear power of quartz with the grounding color black. It is said to allow the connection of one’s higher consciousness with one’s root chakra, or earth nature. This is exactly what makes it so effective for the activities described; only when the body and physical reality are fully recognized as integrated with one’s consciousness, can shifts in one’s conscious will fully enact shifts in one’s physicality. Of course everyone shapes their body and surroundings by means of their consciousness at all times, but there is a spectrum of awareness of this process. We naturally move up this spectrum as we evolve, but focus, desire, and the help of crystal friends can give results in a more organized and deliberate fashion.
