On the Value of Amulets

"There are so many things that are supposed to help me obtain health, love, peace, power, wisdom etc. Why, now, an amulet?'

Amulets are not doctors, dating services, meditation teachers, business coaches, or books. But even these things don’t always enable us to achieve our goals. In fact, nothing enables us to achieve our goals, because we are not here to achieve goals. We are here to move towards our desires, and we often fulfill them, but I believe we are guided, desire by deepening desire, to a richer experience, to those life experiences when the air is sweet and full around us like honey, or the cold starry winds of clarity come and reveal greater mysteries to our wondering minds.

The amulet is a tool of focus. It works by charming the eye and the mind, so that the will and focus of the wearer pours love and joy into their attractive, mysterious, jewelry. The smallest tingle of excitement that the piece evokes translates into great power. The fun of the magic is the very force that creates a gateway for fulfillment of the desire. Dreaming of the desire is also a useful result. The true abilities of our minds and hearts flowing in truthful desire are not yet fully perceived; this is why amulets are worth exploring. They are, from my perspective, at the cutting edge of understanding. For this alone they are worth delving into, because they are like life in miniature – a desire, a reaching for fulfillment, a brush with mystery, and then greater understanding, and desires new and fierce. To move towards one’s desires by means of amulets is also to request a more refined, more beautiful, more clear vision of the universe itself; though there are many ways to do this.

There is much to explore intuitively and intellectually in the selection, wearing, and touching of amulets. Crystals have great and orderly intelligence and distinct characteristics; the charms and symbols have meanings great, small, and even unique to the individual perceiving them. Through the functions of amulets we explore every realm from physical wellness and protection to psychic communication to deep transcendence. An amulet need not be an object of study or of ritual; it only needs to be worn. It is not in itself a fulfiller of desires; it is an invitation and focus of energies, a meeting point between the desires and fears of the wearer, the frequencies of the components, and the charge and intent of the maker. It is nothing more or less than a portable magic spell!
